Today was the first day since last Wednesday morning that I rode my bike. And gosh, it feels great to be on a bike again:)
But over the last few days, it’s also been super great to be a pedestrian, in the SNOW!

(just wandering all the dead ends, heh, the first night it snowed. Picture by James)
.
Snow days in Portland make me so grateful for my sweet little walkable neighborhood, where I can get to any number of grocery stories, parks, bus lines and basically anything I need (and lots of things I don’t:) by foot.
.
(this is Mt. Tabor, one of the aforementioned great parks I can walk to from my house, looking like I went out into the wilderness;)
.
For realz. I mean, I benefit from this all the time in normal non-snow life too, where it takes me approximately 4 minutes to bike to a grocery story, or 6 to the library, or 9 to Mt. Tabor park, or 15 to the Willamette River. It is so lovely to have the things I want within reach without a car, and I wish that all cities (and also all of Portland) were built this way.
But it’s even better in the snow, where even if I don’t want to ride my bike, I can still wander for fun or for pragmatic errand purposes and it’s still all very reasonable and humane.
.
(plus you never know which neighborhood snowpeople you might run into:) Is that an amazing carrot nose or what?)
.
Just feeling lucky and grateful, is all. Happy for the last few snow days and happy also that it’s melted and I can ride my bike again without being stressed out about slipping all over the road. Life is good:)
.
(also, James gets all the bonus points for riding his bike home in a (Portland) blizzard (i.e. blizzard-lite;) on Wednesday;)
