When I checked the weather for Portland just now, I was excited to see a special shout-out for bike safety! In their “special weather statement” for the purportedly super-wet weekend coming up, NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, has this to say:
IN ADDITION...LEAVES MAY EASILY COVER ROAD SURFACE MARKINGS...MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE DISTINCTIONS BETWEEN CAR AND BIKE LANES. WATCH FOR PEDESTRIANS AND BICYCLISTS THAT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO SEE IN DARK AND RAINY CONDITIONS.
Hey! Thanks for thinking of the non-motorized people out and about in the rain and dark! :)
Hey! I actually heard that on the radio!
Really? That’s awesome. Raise the collective consciousness:)
The NOAA radio, that is. ;-)
Yay! :)
Bravo, NOAA! Now, how to spread that attitude to the rest of the country….
Funny, since NOAA is a national thing:) They must tailor their messages to the audience they know they’re reaching?
