Revelstoke <3

Y’all. I don’t really know what to say except holy shit! I am in Revelstoke and loving it here so much.

Though let me back up:) Before I came here I waited a full extra rest day in Nakusp because the air quality up here was terrible and I didn’t feel like I needed to bike into that. That is the awesome thing thing about having no real plan or anyplace I have to be; I can chill in one spot for longer than anticipated if it seems right. And it definitely seemed right in this case. (Plus, Nakusp is super cute, and it meant that I got to go to the farmers market there, play at the beach, watch a totally amazing lightning storm, etc etc:)

And I’m glad I waited, since it is so lovely up here and it would have been a bummer to miss it in all the smoke.

I got to Revelstoke after much excellent biking (including a ferry that is just part of the highway and thus is free:), midmorning. The rest of that day was an explore-town day: ride the waterfront bike paths, wander through town, eat some yummy food, figure out my life. Revelstoke has free outdoor concerts every night in the summer, so I got a free outdoor concert with a super bomb vegan burrito (while everyone else and their mom ate ice cream cones heh).

(Revelstoke is on the Columbia River! It’s fun to see a river I see all the time in Portland so, so many miles closer to its inception )

Today, on the other hand, was a backcountry day! There were no camping permits available for backcountry sites in Mt Revelstoke National Park, but whatevs, I can just hike far:) Especially when there’s a $25 shuttle, Revy Rides that will take you (and your bike, up to six bikes) in an electric van up to the top of the summit road:)

Thus it was that I got to hike to a trifecta of amazing lakes:

When I was done hiking and back at the trailhead where I’d left my bike, I got to take what my shuttle driver called a “gravity-assisted” ride back down to town. Wheeeeee it was like 30km of crazy downhill, zooooom!! So I’m feeling pretty stoked on life in Revelstoke and so excited for this entree into the actual mountains part of my trip! :) Today’s adventure was definitely to the ecosystem that makes my soul sing, so I’m hoping for more of that:)
